HOPE UNITED: Feed the Hungry
In January 2020, three female-led organizations (Minority Vets of America- Atlanta Chapter, TUF Project, Inc., and Restoring One’s Hope of Atlanta, Inc.) partnered to create a monthly outreach called “Hope United: Feed the Hungry.” The purpose of the collaboration was to consolidate outreach efforts for those facing intersectional issues regardless of race and gender. We serve people in targeted areas experiencing high rates of homelessness and living in newly formed tent communities. We provided hot meals, clothing, haircuts, and more until the nationwide shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020.
Our economic impact for 2020 in the Metro Atlanta area was approximately $30,000.00 through the distribution of 3,000+ meals, supplies, and services through monetary and in-kind donations. Each meal contained a sandwich, water, fruit, and snacks. Each supply/hygiene kit included a toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, deodorant, and feminine products. Our vision is to create a food and resource distribution hub to help improve the lives of homeless men, women, and children.
2021 was a great year despite the pandemic. Hope United distributed over 3,000 meals in the community. We were afforded the opportunity to expand our efforts to South Carolina and Alabama. We partnered with various organizations to increase our footprint in the community. We received a grant from Kroger and $1,300 worth of donations from corporations. We also partnered with The Mission Continues in distributing boxes of food to veterans and cleaning up an inner-city school.
We are looking forward to what lies ahead.
